December 17, 2025

Algona, IA – Pharmacists Mutual Insurance Group (PMIG), a leading provider of commercial property and casualty insurance for pharmacies and specialty healthcare service providers, is pleased to announce a new organizational structure and leadership following its transition to a mutual holding company (MHC). This structure, effective January 1, 2026, includes two specialized branches:

  • Property & Casualty (P&C) Insurance Carrier
  • Agency Operations

This change leverages the flexibility of the MHC model, enabling PMIG to better serve specialty healthcare professionals and strengthen its long-term growth strategy.

“This announcement marks an exciting new chapter in our ability to provide truly expertise-backed risk management solutions for all facets of client base. I look forward to this next chapter in our history and supporting Alison and Brian in their new roles,” said Aaron Pearce, Group CEO of PMIG.

Property & Casualty Operations
The P&C company, operating as Pharmacists Insurance Company and Chiron Insurance Company, will manage underwriting, claims, risk management, and distribution partnerships.

  • Alison VanOtterloo will lead as Division President, driving strategic vision, financial performance, operational excellence, and growth initiatives.
  • Chris Ward, Head of Distribution, will oversee business development and relationships with independent agents and brokers.
  • Leslie Hough, Head of Underwriting, will provide strategic leadership of underwriting and innovative growth.

“PMIG makes us more agile and more capable of serving the future of healthcare. It expands our connection points, strengthens our specialties, and positions us to innovate faster,” explained VanOtterloo.

PMC Advantage Insurance Services, Inc. (PMCA), PMIG’s national independent insurance agency, will continue to deliver tailored insurance solutions across healthcare, commercial lines, farm/ag, life and health, and personal insurance.

  • Brian Rakers will serve as Division President, leading PMCA’s mission to provide exceptional service and expanded market access.

“Our agency customers deserve flexibility and choice. This structure gives us more ways to grow, more markets to access, and more opportunities to support clients the right way,” said Rakers.
